Communicate Ideas
Teach for a DayAfter studying a culture of our choice, we had the opportunity to create a lesson plan and travel to O. Henry Middle School to teach two middle school classes. My group taught two 6th grade classes about poverty, oppression, and post-colonial identity within the Caribbean. This was an amazing opportunity to communicate ideas, as we had to create a lesson plan that effectively did so, as well as physically communicate in a way that the kids would learn and stay engaged. Our classes responded very well to our teaching and stayed engaged almost the entire time. The lesson that we created was well planned, and the group was well prepared.
Below is a copy of our lesson plan, as well as a the packet that each student in the class received.

Self-Directed Journal- Word for ThoughtThroughout my sophomore year we had to write many journals on a variety of topics. The journals as a whole are an example of communicating ideas; however, one journal stands out. It is my first self-directed journal, and it is about inspiring things that teachers say. This journal expresses ideas all my own, even down to the prompt. In writing this journal, I had to decide what was the best way to communicate the thoughts that came up in my head in response to some of the things that my teachers have said. That was my biggest challenge in writing this piece, especially because my mind does not always put thoughts in complete sentences. I was able to overcome this challenge and create a unique piece of writing that I am proud of.
