I first joined the Academy for Global Studies because a lot of my friends were,
but today I cannot imagine being apart from AGS; not because of my friends, but
because of the program itself and the influence that it has had on my life. AGS
is one giant family, and nothing reminds me of that more than when we are on one
of our expeditions. Going out and experiencing the world brings us together. We
have made countless amazing memories, and I am so proud to be a member of AGS.
The teachers always blow me away as they teach about the world around us and our
place in it, and they never cease to inspire me, even to the point of me truly
considering teaching as a career path. The students work together rather well,
and what we have done in the past year in small student groups is amazing. We
are making our mark on the world in a positive way, and there is much more to
come as we continue through high school, graduate, and go off to college and
beyond.
I have grown as a learner as my view of the world has expanded and my eyes have
been opened up to other cultures and “a world without borders”. I have learned
how to view the world in a new way that is very valuable to me as I continue my
education, but also as I continue my life. The things that I learn in AGS will
definitely go beyond the doors of Austin High and even beyond whatever college I
decide to attend. What AGS is teaching me, I will hold on to forever, because it
has not just been about learning facts, it has been about learning perspective
and changing my view of the world around me. The impact that the AGS program has
had on my life has been immeasurable, and I am so blessed to be in this program.
I am also very excited about the coming two years because, if I know AGS, then I
know that the teachers will knock my socks off, and every day I will be blown
away by something new.
By being in AGS, I have also grown as a person. AGS has taught me a lot about
making a difference in my world, and knowing that I CAN. I will leave AGS
inspired, because I will have had four years of teachers who inspire me to make
great goals and work to achieve those goals. This program has impacted all of me
and I look forward to seeing the affect that it has and will have on the
world.
I would like to thank all of my teachers for shaping me into the person that I am
today and that I will be when I walk across the stage with a cap and gown on.
You inspire me immensely, and always will. You will always be in my
heart.
